Tata Steel has announced plans to invest Rs 10,000 crore in Jharkhand by 2028 to expand production capacity and accelerate the adoption of low-carbon steelmaking technologies.
The investment includes Rs 7,000 crore for the HIsarna and Easy Melting Technology project, Rs 2,600 crore for the expansion of its Tinplate Division, and Rs 1,500 crore for a new Combi mill. The company also plans to establish a one-million-tonne HIsarna pilot plant at Jamshedpur, with production feeding existing steel melt shops. The HIsarna process enables ironmaking with significantly lower carbon emissions while reducing dependence on conventional coke.
The projects are expected to generate around 2,000 direct and indirect jobs and support Tata Steel’s target of increasing its domestic steelmaking capacity to 40 MTPA.
